Article "Cobblestone roads and hole-in-the-wall cafés"

‘First bar in 50 steps’ reads the first signboard on exiting the ferry.

My kind of people, these Estonians, I think to myself.

After all, its not everywhere you’re told which way the nearest drinking establishment is, especially on arrival.Although the beginning of my trip to Tallinn is still somewhat blurry in my mind after an eight-hour plane ride from Montréal, I believe it started on a bright, sunny day in Helsinki with a two-hour ferry ride.
Blog Food for thought: is writer's block a myth?

They say that all wildly talented writers have writer’s block (OK, so I made that up!)

But if it were true, I’d have talent beyond compare - 9 times out of 10.Really though, while most of ‘the greats’ did suffer from writer’s block, I can’t help but wonder how many of them suffered the same way I do. More specifically, how many of them dealt with the combination of procrastination, laziness, lack of inspiration, and self-doubt that I interpret as writer’s block through the majority of my writing ‘process’.

Article "The cows wear bras in Finland"
“Have you seen the cows in bras?” I frowned in response to this question. Cows – in brassieres? Why couldn’t the cows in Nivala embrace Scandinavian morals and ‘go Woodstock’, if you know what I mean. What in heaven’s name did they need ‘udder support’ for? Were these brassieres colourful? Or were we talking, modest, flesh-toned bras?

As I would soon find out, the (dairy) cows in Nivala opted for leather bras, which were strapped across their udders, in a string of unflattering shades – everything from chestnut to grey, and, if they were really raunchy, fur.
